Smart Snacking for the Whole Family

Here are some snack ideas to keep on hand or pack in lunch boxes:
  • Choose low-fat or sugar-free ice cream, frozen yogurt, or sorbet. Also, fresh fruit like peaches, strawberries, and raspberries are naturally sweet, low-fat, and delicious. Try some fresh mixed berries with a little fat-free whipped topping.

  • You don't need to cut sweets and desserts out altogether — just take smaller portions or choose lower calorie selections. Enjoy cookies and desserts in moderation, like a few Pepperidge Farm® Mini Milano® or Mini Chessmen® cookies.

  • Try simple snacks like cheese and crackers. Choose a reduced-fat cheese and whole-grain crackers.

  • Popcorn is a delicious, crunchy, and filling snack. Pop your own without butter, or try one of the several reduced-fat microwave popcorns. Single serving microwavable bags are now available in supermarkets. You can eat it plain, or add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a little sugar, seasoned salt, or a little dry ranch salad dressing mix.

  • Soup is a great snack for the kids after school. Let them sit and tell you about their day while sipping on some soup. It's a great way to add a wholesome snack while spending quality time together. If it's crunch they crave, drop in a few Pepperidge Farm® Cheddar Made with Whole Grain Goldfish® crackers.

  • Low-fat or fat-free tortillas are a great way to make smart, fun snacks. Try spreading some low-fat cream cheese on a tortilla, fill it with fresh veggies and Pace® salsa, roll it up, and cut it into snack-size pieces.

  • Keep the fridge filled with beverages like V8® 100% vegetable juice, Campbell's® tomato juice or V8 V-Fusion® juices. These drinks provide a quick and refreshing snack with nutritional value.

  • Fondue it! Cut up fresh fruit into chunks and dip them into a small bowl (about ¼ cup) of chocolate syrup. This is great as an after-school snack or dessert.

  • Dried fruit is a sweet, high-fiber snack for kids and adults alike. Try different varieties, such as raisins, dried apricots, and banana chips. Keep in mind that dried fruits are higher in calories than fresh fruits, so limit serving sizes to ¼ cup.

  • Snacks like pretzels and Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers are delicious options when you crave a savory crunch. Nuts (in moderation) and sunflower seeds are a smart choice and easy to take on the road.

  • Low-fat yogurt is a favorite for kids and adults. Try sprinkling some low-fat granola or high-fiber cereal on yogurt. It adds crunch and fiber.

  • Cereal is a fun snack for kids. Try to stick with a lower-sugar cereal for the kids and a high-fiber cereal for the adults. Enjoy with low-fat or skim milk.
