Don't Let Weather Get in the Way of Exercise

If exercising inside isn't an option, or you prefer outdoor activities, keep these tips in mind.

On hot humid days:
  • Exercise in the early morning or after the sun goes down so it is cooler.

  • Give yourself a chance to adapt to the heat — don't overdo it!

  • Drink lots of fluids before, during, and after exercising. Have a V8® 100% vegetable juice to rehydrate after a workout.

  • Watch out for signs of heat stroke — feeling dizzy, weak, lightheaded and/or excessive sweating, or changes in body temperature.

  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.

On cold days:

  • Wear one layer less of clothing than you would wear if you were outside but not exercising. It's also better to wear several light layers of clothing rather than one heavy layer. That way you can remove and add layers as necessary.

On rainy, icy, or snowy days:

  • Be aware of reduced visibility (wear brightly colored clothes).

  • Wear shoes/boots with good traction.
